We Had Our 3rd Meetup!

We have had three meetups now. Our 1st was in May 2010 in Woodstock, Illinois, our 2nd in June 2010 in Dundee, Illinois, and our 3rd in July 2010 also in Dundee, Illinois. We have had as many as 11 Great Danes at one meet and as few as 5. We have had Great Danes come from all over northeastern Illinois from Mundelein to Oswego, from Chicago to Woodstock. Each time has been a really fun outing for us. Where will our next Great Dane meetup be?

I'd like to move it to somewhere in Lake County or Cook County just to keep us traveling. So far we have met in McHenry County and Kane County. Please let us know if you have suggestions for a meetup location or a special event. Someone suggested marching with our Great Danes in parades or processions to honor fallen soldiers or soldiers returning home from overseas. Someone else suggested attending "Dog Day" at U.S. Cellular Field next year with the White Sox. Both great ideas! Keep 'em coming and check back regularly for photo updates from the different meets.

Welcome to the Chicagoland Great Dane Group! We are a group of Great Dane owners who meet regularly throughout the Chicagoland area. The purpose of our meetings is to allow our Great Danes an opportunity to socialize and play with other dogs their size. The meetings also afford us an opportunity to meet others in our area who share our love for this giant breed.

At this time we are not a breeders’ group or a show group, rather we are a group of Great Dane enthusiasts who have a different goal. Our goal is to simply have fun. We do this by sharing health/training tips, dietary suggestions, stories, pictures, etc. while doing something so important and beneficial for our dogs – letting them play with other dogs their size. By participating in this group we provide an energy outlet for our giant dogs while at the same time meeting others who share our interest and who often times share their knowledge of dog ownership and Great Dane companionship. Another benefit of our group is getting exposure to other dog parks and natural areas throughout the Chicago metropolitain area that might otherwise be unknown to us.

Since our inception in early 2010, we have put together a group of over thirty Great Dane owners and we're still growing! It seems like each month word spreads and we add a few more Great Danes to our group. Some are first time owners with little or no dog experience and others are fourth or fifth time Great Dane owners with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Some of us have one Dane and others have two or three. Regardless of an individual's experience or the number of Great Danes they have, the end result is happier, healthier Great Danes and human owners who promote this uniquely special breed through good sportsmanship and friendly encounters!
